A shocking case of gang activity has once again surfaced in Gujarat’s diamond city, raising concerns about rising criminal elements. According to Surat News, a man linked to the notorious Surya Marathi gang was arrested after allegedly firing a pistol into the air in a public area in an attempt to intimidate local residents. The incident gained widespread attention after a video of the act went viral on social media, prompting swift action by the police.
Viral Video Leads Police to the Accused
The incident reportedly took place in the Ved Road area of Surat. In the viral video, the accused—identified as Deepak alias Deepak Kutekar—can be seen casually smoking a cigarette while firing a pistol into the air. Authorities believe the act was intended to create panic among residents and establish his dominance in the area.
Ironically, the same video that was apparently meant to boost his reputation ended up becoming key evidence against him. As soon as the clip began circulating online, Surat Police and the Special Operations Group (SOG) launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the suspect.
Dramatic Police Operation in the City
Acting on confidential information, the SOG team learned that the accused was moving around near Viramnagar Society in the Chok Bazaar area. Police officers discreetly set up surveillance and waited for the right moment to make their move. In a carefully planned operation, officers managed to capture the suspect without incident.
During the arrest, police recovered an illegal pistol from the waistband of the accused. The firearm is estimated to be worth around ₹35,000. Investigations revealed that Kutekar originally belongs to Valan village in the Mahad taluka of Maharashtra but had been residing in the Ved Road locality of Surat.
Weapon Purchased for Revenge
During interrogation, the accused reportedly made several startling revelations. According to police sources, Kutekar had a serious dispute with a man named Hitesh Solanki in 2024. During that altercation, Solanki allegedly fired at him, though Kutekar escaped unharmed.
The incident left him seeking revenge. About a year later, he purchased the pistol from Uttar Pradesh for approximately ₹35,000. Investigators also discovered that a jailed accused named Rohit alias Munna Dudhe allegedly helped Kutekar obtain the weapon.

Investigation into Illegal Arms Network
Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajdeepsinh Nakum stated that the case is being treated with utmost seriousness. A case has been registered against the accused under Section 25(1)(A) of the Arms Act, which carries the possibility of life imprisonment.
Police have now begun investigating the illegal arms supply chain that brought the weapon into Surat. Authorities are trying to identify the supplier in Uttar Pradesh and determine how many individuals may be involved in the network. Additionally, investigators are examining Hitesh Solanki’s possible gang connections and role in the ongoing dispute.
Long Criminal Record Raises Concern
Police records indicate that Deepak Kutekar is no stranger to crime. According to Surat News, as many as 21 serious criminal cases have been registered against him in various police stations across the city. These include charges of attempted murder, assault, rioting, firing incidents, offences under the NDPS Act, and violations under the Atrocities Act.
Authorities also revealed that Kutekar has previously been detained four times under the Prevention of Anti-Social Activities Act (PASA) and had once been externed from the city.
