A major political controversy has erupted in Surat after a serious complaint was filed against Kalu Vaghasiya, a spokesperson of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Police in the Laskana area have registered a First Information Report (FIR) accusing Kalu Vaghasiya of rape, criminal intimidation, and exploitation of a married woman under the pretext of marriage. The case has sparked widespread discussion in political circles as well as among the public due to the gravity of the allegations.
Alleged Friendship Began Through Social Media
According to the complaint lodged by the woman, the incident traces back to December 2024. The complainant, who lives in the Laskana area of Surat, reportedly came into contact with Kalu Vaghasiya through social media. Their initial interaction began casually with greetings and small talk.
Over time, the conversations between the two became frequent and more personal. The complainant has alleged that Kalu Vaghasiya, who holds a political position, used his influence and friendly demeanor to gain her trust. Gradually, he built a close relationship with the woman, convincing her that he genuinely cared about her and intended to marry her.
Promise of Divorce and Marriage
In her statement to the police, the woman claimed that Kalu Vaghasiya often spoke about difficulties in his personal life. He allegedly told her that his relationship with his wife had broken down and that they had been living separately for a long time.
The complainant stated that Kalu Vaghasiya repeatedly promised that he would soon divorce his wife and marry her. Believing these assurances, the woman continued the relationship, trusting that it would eventually lead to marriage.
Allegations of Repeated Exploitation
The woman has accused Kalu Vaghasiya of taking advantage of her trust and emotional vulnerability. According to the complaint, he allegedly invited her to his residence and also took her to different hotels across Surat. During these meetings, she claims he established physical relations with her after promising marriage.
The woman alleged that these encounters occurred multiple times over an extended period. She said she believed his assurances and continued the relationship in the hope that they would eventually marry.
However, the situation reportedly changed when she began asking him to fulfill his promise.
Threats After Refusal to Marry
The complainant told police that when she insisted on marriage, Kalu Vaghasiya allegedly refused and began behaving aggressively. She claims he verbally abused her and denied any intention of marrying her.
The woman further alleged that Kalu Vaghasiya threatened her, saying that if she went to the police, he would take extreme steps similar to the case involving builder Tushar Ghelani and would make life difficult for her and her son.
These alleged threats eventually pushed the woman to approach the police.
Police Register Case and Begin Investigation
After hearing the complaint, Laskana police registered an FIR against Kalu Vaghasiya under charges related to rape and criminal intimidation. Officials confirmed that an investigation has been launched and that evidence is being collected as part of the legal process.

The complaint also referenced the widely discussed case of Surat builder Tushar Ghelani. On February 1, 2026, Ghelani reportedly attempted suicide using his licensed revolver after allegedly facing blackmail and financial pressure from a woman acquaintance named Poonam Bhadoria.
The incident occurred on the same day his daughter’s wedding invitations were being written, turning a family celebration into a tragedy. Ghelani suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was later declared brain-dead after several days of treatment.
Investigations in that case revealed allegations of blackmail and financial exploitation, including claims that properties and large sums of money had been taken from the builder.

As the investigation continues, the allegations against Kalu Vaghasiya have already created significant debate within local political circles in Surat.
